When we pray we present to God a form of worship, as we address the Father in Jesus Name. Our Lord Jesus Christ is our access to the Father: Ephesians 2:18 “For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.” We can come boldly before the throne of grace for we are invited to do so, he gave commanded to do so in Hebrews 4:16, “Let us come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” Because of our Lord Jesus Christ Hebrews 13:6 says, “… That we may boldly say, the Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.” All of our access comes through our Lord Jesus Christ. We should worship the Lord Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father, God “in spirit and in truth.”
We are commanded in Scripture to worship the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God. John 5:23 says, That all men should honour the son, even as they honour the father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath Sent him.” The plain fact is, that if we do not worship the Lord Jesus Christ we do not worship God the Father. Thomas declared, and John chapter 20 and verse 28, “… My Lord and my God….” This is a declaration that Jesus is God and of that there is no question. You may not believe he is God but that does not change the fact that Jesus is the true God and there is no God beside him. Colossians chapter 2 in verse nine tells us “For in him well of all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.” We are to trust the Lord Jesus Christ, putting all of our trust in God and then shall our hearts not be troubled (see John 14:1). Jesus plainly tells us that we are to believe in him; therefore, if he is not God then he is telling us to trust in man which is a contradiction of Scripture. He is God and we are to trust him. Jesus is our hope and our happiness, our joy in our peace, our God and our Savior!
Christian, we are to keep ourselves from idols: 1 John 5:21 “Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.” It does not matter what they idol is, what does matter is that we get rid of idols out of our lives. If they be graven images, get rid of them! If they be men, get rid of them! If it be possessions, get rid of them! Whatever they are, whatever they may be, we are to keep ourselves from idols. This is a command of God!
The worship God wants comes from our hearts, not just our heads. We worship him with reverence and godly fear, serving him with the same: Hebrews 12:28 “Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.” This kind of worship requires that we be born again. No lost man can worship God acceptably. The only way that we can come before God acceptably is after we have been born again and saved by the grace of God. Before that all of our worship is just as worthless as Cain’s worship. Such worship leads only to our destruction. We must worship God acceptably through our Lord Jesus Christ and through him alone.
This then brings us to the conclusion of our study on the subject of worship of God.Share This:
