Just a Thought on Revelation 15 / Prophecy; God’s Wrath / Revelation 15:5–8

Hello, I’m John Cook and I want to welcome you to John Cook Ministries. This is a ministry of helps in training for the ministry and in encouraging the study of God’s words, comparing scripture with scripture.

I saw a posting the other day someone saying I want to hear the voice of God. They are told to read God’s words. The reply was I want to hear God speak out loud, the reply read God’s words out loud. Could it be that simple? Yes, for the scriptures are the voice of God to man, you want to know what He has to say, READ IT!

Welcome to our continuing study on Just a Thought on Revelation 15, part 4.

Slide 2: Introduction

  • Seven Vials
  • Temple filled with smoke

Slide 3: Revelation 15:7 KJV 1900

And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever.

Slide 4: “one of the four beasts”

•       which are before the throne of God:

Slide 5-8: Revelation 4:6–9 KJV 1900

And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.

And the first beast was like a lion, and the second beast like a calf, and the third beast had a face as a man, and the fourth beast was like a flying eagle.

And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,

Slide 9: “gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials”

•       First appearance of vials in Revelation:

Slide 10: Revelation 5:8 KJV 1900

And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.

•       No prayers now, unless represents the answer to the prayers of the saints.

Slide 11: “full of the wrath of God, who liveth forever and ever”

•       Man is about to experience the wrath of almighty God

•       Man is going to receive the wages of sin:

Slide 12: Romans 6:23 KJV 1900

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

•       Why? Because the refused the salvation offered:

Slide 13: 1 Thessalonians 1:10 KJV 1900

And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

•       Just think man’s in is against the eternal God requiring eternal punishment.

•       Escape?

Slide 14: Romans 6:23 KJV 1900

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

•       Don’t miss the escape!

Slide 15: Revelation 15:8 KJV 1900

And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.

Slide 16: “the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and his power”

•       This takes place in OT:

Slide 17-18: Exodus 40:34–35 KJV 1900

Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

•       Even so as Moses could not enter, so:

Slide 19: “no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled”

•       None have access to plead the mercy of God.

•       Justice shall rule, wrath without mercy!

•       Today there is mercy as there was in Lot’s Day:

Slide 20: Genesis 19:16 KJV 1900

And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the Lord being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.

•       Salvation is available today:

Slide 21: 2 Corinthians 6:2 KJV 1900

(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

•       The question to consider:

Slide 22: Hebrews 2:3 KJV 1900

How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

•       Answer without Christ there is no escape:

Slide 23: Revelation 14:10 KJV 1900

The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

Dr. John Cook / General

Just a Thought on Revelation 13 / Number of the Beast (666); Revelation; Prophecy; Antichrist / Revelation 13:11–18

Introduction

Revelation 13:11 KJV 1900

And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

“And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth”

1.   “Out of the earth”: out of hell

a.  Demonic spirit

b.  NOTE: Satan present on earth: cast out of heaven

i.    Cast out of heaven!

2.   Description:

“and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon”

1.   “like” key word: counterfeit

a.  No horns on a lamb, yet found here

i.    “Horns”: Power, protection

b.  Speaks like the devil!

Revelation 13:12 KJV 1900

And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

“And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him”

1.   Devil given power to do miracles:

Revelation 16:13–14 KJV 1900

And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast”

1.   Mission: Idol worship

Zechariah 11:17 KJV 1900

Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! The sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: His arm shall be clean dried up, And his right eye shall be utterly darkened.

a.  Leads men to worship the antichrist.

i.    Idolater commands idolatry.

“whose deadly wound was healed”

Revelation 13:4 KJV 1900

And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?

Revelation 13:14 KJV 1900

And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

a.  Antichrist overcomes a deadly wound.

Revelation 13:13 KJV 1900

And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

“And he doeth great wonders”

1.   Deceives by signs and wonders:

2 Thessalonians 2:9–11 KJV 1900

Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

“so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on earth in the sight of men”

1.   As Elijah the prophet:

1 Kings 18:24 KJV 1900

And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.

a.  Look out for signs and wonders:

2 Thessalonians 2:9–11 KJV 1900

Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

Revelation 13:14 KJV 1900

And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

“And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth”

1.   Those deceived:

Revelation 12:12 KJV 1900

Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

a.  “inhabiters”: Those that have taken up residence

i.    Chosen to follow the devil

b.  Want to believe the liar God will see that you do:

1 Kings 22:20–23 KJV 1900

And the Lord said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner.

And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the Lord, and said, I will persuade him.

And the Lord said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.

Now therefore, behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the Lord hath spoken evil concerning thee.

“by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast”

1.   God allows the devil to deceive men by miracles.

“saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast”

1.   Call to make a graven image, direct contradiction of scripture:

Exodus 20:4 KJV 1900

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

a.  A corrupting action:

Deuteronomy 4:16 KJV 1900

Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female,

“which had the wound by a sword, and did live”

a.  Reminder of the power God allows the devil at that time!

Just a Thought on Revelation 13:15-18 (Part 7)

Dr. John Cook / General

Just a Thought on Revelation 13 / Number of the Beast (666); Revelation; Prophecy; Antichrist / Revelation 13:11–18

Introduction:

  1. The image that must be worshipped.
  2. The mark that must be taken.
  3. The consequences to all that refuse.
  4. The consequences to all who accept.

Revelation 13:15 KJV 1900

And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

“And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast”

1.   Once more we see that God allows the devil to deceive:

God allows beast to give life to the graven image!

“that the image should both speak”

  1. What if this happened today?
    1. Men already worship the world.
    1. Want to be deceived God will allow you to be deceived.

“and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed”

1.   Devil will kill all that do not worship him!

a.  No opposition to capital punishment then:

i.    Example:

Daniel 3:6 KJV 1900

And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.

Daniel 3:15 KJV 1900

Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?

Revelation 13:16 KJV 1900

And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

“And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond”

a.  Federal offense not to take the mark!

i.    All are under his power.

“to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads”

a.  Not difficult to believe today, look at the mask!

1.   Counterfeits the Lord:

Revelation 7:4 KJV 1900

And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

Revelation 14:1 KJV 1900

And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.

Revelation 13:17 KJV 1900

And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

“And that no man might buy or sell”

Power to say Who and Who Cannot Purchase

a.  Today: Businesses can and cannot operate outside of the government control!

1.   Required then:

“save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”

a.  Mark required!

Revelation 13:18 KJV 1900

Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

“Here is wisdom”

a.  God is revealing the mark!

“Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast”

1.   The mark is a number!

“for it is the number of a man”

1.   A specific number of a specific man!

a.  The beast is a man!

“his number is Six hundred threescore and six”

1.   Satanic trinity: 6-6-6

a.  Given concerning Solomon:

2 Chronicles 9:13 KJV 1900

Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred and threescore and six talents of gold;

2.   INTERESTING TO NOTE: We live in a day when numbers mean more than names!

3.   If you are around in that day, do not take this mark.

a.  Take the mark and you are without hope:

Revelation 14:11 KJV 1900

And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

Conclusion:

  1. The image that must be worshipped.
  2. The mark that must be taken.
  3. The consequences of all that refuse.
  4. The consequence to all who accept.

Lesson 6 Pastoral Epistles (Part 8)

1 Timothy 6:19-21

1 Timothy 6:19 KJV 1900

Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

“laying up in store for themselves…”

Careful where you lay up those stores:

Matthew 6:19–21 KJV 1900

Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

There is one thing that is certain, ETERNITY:

Luke 12:33 KJV 1900

Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.

We must not trust in uncertain riches!

Now consider:

“…a good foundation…”

Where is that foundation to be found, in the Lord:

Luke 6:48–49 KJV 1900

He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

Where is that foundation to be found, in love:

Ephesians 3:17 KJV 1900

That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

Where is that foundation to be found, in understanding and knowing the Lord:

Jeremiah 9:23–24 KJV 1900

Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Neither let the mighty man glory in his might, Let not the rich man glory in his riches:

But let him that glorieth glory in this, That he understandeth and knoweth me, That I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: For in these things I delight, saith the Lord.

Next, consider the time that is important:

“…against the time to come…”

The time to come is ETERNITY:

1 Timothy 6:7 KJV 1900

For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

Departure from TIME is certain:

James 1:9–11 KJV 1900

Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

In ETERNITY comes the Judgment Seat of Christ:

2 Corinthians 5:10–11 KJV 1900

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

Then consider what we are to lay hold on:

“…that they man lay hold on…”

Hold on to our blessed hope:

Titus 2:13 KJV 1900

Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

This is a LIVING hope:

1 Peter 1:3–5 KJV 1900

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Moving on we see:

1 Timothy 6:20 KJV 1900

O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

Paul addresses the call:

“…O Timothy…”

The addressee is:

Paul speaks directly to Timothy!

Warning that has been delivered to him:

1 Timothy 6:11 KJV 1900

But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

Order for direct action for Timothy to take:

2 Timothy 2:1 KJV 1900

Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

Furthermore:

“…keep that which is committed to thy trust…”

Faithful stewardship is required:

1 Peter 4:10 KJV 1900

As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

1 Corinthians 4:2 KJV 1900

Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

The TRUST given:

1 Timothy 1:11 KJV 1900

According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

The glorious gospel must be delivered in its purity:

Galatians 1:6–7 KJV 1900

I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

The glorious gospel is SOUND Gospel:

2 Timothy 1:13–14 KJV 1900

Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.

The glorious gospel is a FAITHFUL Gospel:

Titus 1:9 KJV 1900

Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

Staying true to the words of God is how we show our Love for the Savior:

John 14:23 KJV 1900

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

What we are to avoid:

“…avoiding profane and vain babblings…”

Words of no profit:

“Babblings” are nothing but “hot air!”

For example:

1 Timothy 4:7 KJV 1900

But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

How do we avoid:

2 Timothy 3:14–17 KJV 1900

But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Furthermore:

“…and oppositions of science falsely so called…”

This is the world’s wisdom:

1 Corinthians 3:19 KJV 1900

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

Strikes at the heart of educated!

“science falsely so called”

Shows they called that science which is not science!

“…science..” missing from most new bibles, replaced by “knowledge”!

What’s their problem:

Dislike their “god” being called false!

Now look at:

1 Timothy 6:21 KJV 1900

Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with thee. Amen.

Path to error:

“Which some professing have erred concerning the faith…”

Who have erred:

“Some” those that put science in front of God’s words!”

Where is the true knowledge:

Begins with “the fear of the Lord”:

Psalm 111:10 KJV 1900

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: A good understanding have all they that do his commandments: His praise endureth for ever.

Found in the Savior:

Colossians 2:3 KJV 1900

In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

No knowledge outside of the Savior:

Colossians 2:8 KJV 1900

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Whence comes error:

Following the world’s wisdom:

1 Corinthians 3:18–20 KJV 1900

Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.

1 Corinthians 2:6–8 KJV 1900

Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:

But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:

Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

The outcome of error:

1 Timothy 1:19 KJV 1900

Holding faith, and a good conscience; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:

Finally:

“…Grace be with thee. Amen.”

To continue in the ministry:

We Need God’s Grace Alway

To stay faithful though others depart from the truth of God’s words!

Good test:

1 Timothy 6:5 KJV 1900

Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

1 Timothy 6:10 KJV 1900

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

1 Timothy 6:20 KJV 1900

O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

Pastoral Epistles / 1 Timothy 6:12–13

Lesson 6/Part 5

Part 5

We consider today:

•     Our  battle

•     Our  orders

•     Our  Commander

1 Timothy 6:12 KJV 1900

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

“Fight the good fight of faith…”

Call for Action

2 Timothy 2:3 KJV 1900

Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

Words That Show Control of Action

Fighting the Right Battle

1 Timothy 1:18 KJV 1900

This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;

Not a Self-Serving Battle

1 Corinthians 9:25–26 KJV 1900

And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:

Requires Right Weapons of Warfare

2 Corinthians 6:7 KJV 1900

By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,

Worthless Weapons

2 Corinthians 10:3–5 KJV 1900

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Needed Weapon

Hebrews 4:12 KJV 1900

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Ends Only When Its Over

2 Timothy 4:7 KJV 1900

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

“…lay hold on eternal life…”

Now by Faith; Then Real

Philippians 1:21 KJV 1900

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

Living and Waring for a Guaranteed Future

Ephesians 1:13 KJV 1900

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

Assured of Guaranteed Future Keeps us in the Battle

1 John 5:12 KJV 1900

He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

Key is Assurance

2 Timothy 1:12 KJV 1900

For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

More Than Conquerors

Romans 8:37 KJV 1900

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

1 Corinthians 15:57 KJV 1900

But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

“…whereunto thou art also called…”

We are called

Romans 1:6 KJV 1900

Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:

1 Peter 5:10 KJV 1900

But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

“…called according to his purpose…”

Romans 8:28–30 KJV 1900

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

We have a Holy Calling

2 Timothy 1:9 KJV 1900

Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

We are to “walk worthy”

Ephesians 4:1 KJV 1900

I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

“…hast professed a good profession…”

Surrendered to Jesus

Romans 10:9–10 KJV 1900

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Good Profession Assured:

Titus 1:16 KJV 1900

They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

1 Timothy 6:13 KJV 1900

I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;

“I give thee in the sight of God…”

Ordered Conduct

1 Timothy 5:21 KJV 1900

I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

Paul gives Timothy orders of conduct

1 Timothy 5:21 KJV 1900

I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

God-Given Orders

Galatians 1:12 KJV 1900

For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Know our Authority Comes from God

Psalm 12:6–7 KJV 1900

The words of the Lord are pure words: As silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, Thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

Like a Father to His Children

1 Thessalonians 2:11 KJV 1900

As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,

“…who quickeneth all things…”

Our Lord is a Quickening Spirit

1 Corinthians 15:45 KJV 1900

And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

Life and Death is in His Hands

Deuteronomy 32:39 KJV 1900

See now that I, even I, am he, And there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: Neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.

“…and before Christ Jesus…”

Life is in Jesus Our Savior

John 5:21 KJV 1900

For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.

John 5:26 KJV 1900

For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;

Our Service is Before the Savior and Shall be Tried of the Savior

Romans 14:10–12 KJV 1900

But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

“..who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession…”

Matthew 27:11 KJV 1900

And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.

John 18:36–37 KJV 1900

Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

John 19:11 KJV 1900

Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.

Follow God

Ephesians 5:1 KJV 1900

Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

Followers of the Savior

1 Thessalonians 1:6 KJV 1900

And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost:

Having seen these three facts, let us faithfully follow the Savior!

Slide 32:

  • Proverbs 20:22 Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.

Slide 36:

  • Does this mean we are to be Mr. Milk-toast?

Slide 37:

Conclusion:

  1. God gives very definite orders for my race.
    1. Directs my running from
    1. Directs my running after

PART

Revelation 12:14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

  1. “and to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness”
    1. On eagle’s wings as God brought her out of Egypt: Exodus 19:4 Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.
      1. Cp. Deuteronomy 32:11 As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings:
    1. Possibility: Description of airplane escape
      1. Not on the sabbath: Matthew 24:20   But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:
        1. No airlines fly on the Sabbath in Israel.
  2. “into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent”
    1. Discussed earlier that her place is Petra in modern-day Jordan.
      1. City of refuge for Israel.
    1. God’s care for Israel during this time is like unto the manna in the wilderness.
    1. Terrible time: Matthew 24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.
    1. God is going to hide her from the devil.

Revelation 12:15 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.

  1. “the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood”
    1. Literal (?): Daniel 9:26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
    1. Will do all possible to destroy Israel: Lamentations 4:19 Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven: they pursued us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness

Revelation 12:16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.

  1. “the earth helped the woman”
    1. God’s creation protects God’s people.
  2. “he earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth”
    1. a.     God works here as in the day of delivering Israel from Egypt: Isaiah 11:15, 16 And the LORD shall utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and with his mighty wind shall he shake his hand over the river, and shall smite it in the seven streams, and make men go over dryshod. And there shall be an highway for the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.
  • God can do miraculously above all that we could ask or think: Ephesians 3:20  Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

  • “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed”
    • Since he cannot harm the hidden, he goes after the remaining remnant.
      • These had not heeded the warning to flee: Mark 13:14   But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:
      • Staying where God tells you to leave is a really bad idea.
    • No one to blame but themselves for being in harm’s way.
      • Problem: Unbelief!
  • “which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ”
    • Faith and works in Tribulation Period: cp. Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
      • Not true today:
        • Cp. Revelation 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
      • True in Tribulation Period: Matthew 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
        • Cp. Matthew 24:50-51 The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of, [51]   And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
        • Cp. Matthew 25:30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
      • Is it possible then to lose salvation? Not today.

Conclusion: This is the conclusion of our study on Just a Thought on Revelation 12.

Lesson 6 Pastoral Epistles (Part 2)

Introduction: This brings us to:

  1. The servant’s responsibility to His master.
  2. The preacher’s responsibility to the flock.
  3. The proper response to those that reject the words of God.

(Slide 3)

1 Timothy 6:2 And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.

(Slide 4)

  1. they that have believing masters”
    1. Servant/Slave towards saved master: Colossians 3:22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:

(Slide 5)

  1. Ephesians 6:5-6 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;

(Slide 6)

  • “let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service”
    • Don’t hold them in contempt, nor abhor them
      • This would be natural from man’s standpoint.

(Slide 7)

  • In place of that attitude:
    • Serve them.

(Slide 8)

  • because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit”

(Slide 9)

  1. The benefits are going to be revealed
    1. Of the slave for faithful service

(Slide 10)

  1. Of the master for just and equal treatment: Colossians 4:1 Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.

(Slide 11)

  • When: Colossians 3:24-25 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

(Slide 12)

  • “These things teach and exhort”
    • Preacher’s responsibility
      • Teach and Preach this message.
        • Far cry from our thinking today.
        • What are we to say of those that disagree with this message?

(Slide 13)

1 Timothy 6:3 If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;

            (Slide 14)

  1. “If any man teach otherwise”
    1. Watch out for what’s coming!

(Slide 15)

  • Paul says in 1 Timothy 1:3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,
    • Other doctrine: men’s opinions

(Slide 16)

  1. We are to avoid those that contradict God’s doctrine:
    1. They are pleasing fables: 2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

(Slide 17)

  • Then God says he is proud, knows nothing, hung up on strife and railing: 1 Timothy 6:4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

(Slide 18)

  • “If any man…consent not to wholesome words”
    • “Wholesome words” give good health
    • Are good for us: Titus 3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.
    • Are not to be resisted, but surrendered to.

(Slide 19)

  • “If any man…consent not to…even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ”
    • Wholesome words are the words of our Lord Jesus Christ

(Slide 20)

  • 1 Thessalonians 4:1-2 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more. For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.

(Slide 21)

  1. Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

(Slide 22)

  • “If any man…consent not… to the doctrine which is according to godliness”
    • The doctrine is that which comes from godliness.
      • Consenting not is a rebellion against God.
    • What we are to do: Proverbs 19:27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.

(Slide 23)

1 Timothy 6:4 He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

(Slide 24)

  1. Here’s man’s problem: “He is proud, knowing nothing”
    1. Proverbs 26:12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
    1. Romans 12:16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

(Slide 25)

  • Proud in own ignorance.

(Slide 26)

  • “doting about questions and strifes of words”
    • Doting: Excessive fondness
      • About questions
      • About Strifes over words

(Slide 27)

  • God’s command concerning:
    • 2 Timothy 2:23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.

(Slide 28)

  • Marks of the carnal man:
    • 1 Corinthians 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

(Slide 29)

  • Results of: “whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings”
    • Man’s pride breeds.
      • Envy: looking with hatefulness at others
      • Strife: contentious behavior
      • Railings: insulting behavior and speaking
    • These are spoken towards masters by unfaithful servants/slaves, preachers, teachers.

(Slide 30)

1 Timothy 6:5 Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

(Slide 31)

  1. “Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds”
    1. These have turned from the right to the wrong
      1. Use God’s words to teach what God’s words don’t say: 1 Timothy 1:6 From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;

(Slide 32)

  • Their minds are corrupt; filled with errors: Titus 1:15-16 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled. They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

(Slide 33)

  • destitute of the truth,”
    • Forsaken and deprived of the truth
      • There is no truth in them: John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
        • Like unto their father the devil.

(Slide 34)

  • supposing that gain is godliness”
    • Point to how many believe them, what great reputation among men they have, or possessions.
      • Think all of this points to the fact that they are godly.
    • Newer bibles: ESV, ASV, NKJV: “godliness is a means to gain”; Living Bible: “a show of godliness is just a way to become wealthy”; changes message!

(Slide 35)

  • So, what are we to do? “from such withdraw thyself”
    • RUN AWAY! These are people we are to stay away from.
    • Proverbs 19:27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.

(Slide 36)

  • Romans 16:17-18 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

(Slide 37)

  • 2 Thessalonians 3:6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.

YouTube

Introduction: In our previous lesson, part 2 of our study, we saw

  1. The servant’s responsibility to His master:
    1. The preacher’s responsibility to his flock.
    1. Proper response to the rejecters
      1. Reject those that that reject the truth of God’s words.

In our study today we are going to look at:

  • Contentment and the lack thereof.

Slide 3

1 Timothy 6:6 But godliness with contentment is great gain.

            Slide 4

  1. This is what we need: “godliness with contentment is great gain”
    1. A truth that God tells us: godliness is gain when found with contentment.
    1. If you want gain, seek godliness with contentment.
    1. Godliness is living in the will of God, not in my will.

                        Slide 5

  • 1 Timothy 4:8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

                        Slide 6

  • Proverbs 15:16 Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

                        Slide 7

  • Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

                        Slide 8

  • Philippians 4:11-13 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

            Slide 9

  • Context is servants/slaves to masters!

Slide 10

1 Timothy 6:7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

            Slide 11

  1. The value of earthly possessions:
    1. Job 1:21 And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

                        Slide 12

  • Luke 12:20-21 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

Slide 13

1 Timothy 6:8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

            Slide 14

  1. The necessities of life: “food and raiment”
    1. Proverbs 30:8-9 Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

                        Slide 15

  • Matthew 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.

            Slide 16

  • “let us be therewith content”
    • That which we are to be content with is less than most of us find in our estimation of contentment

Slide 17

1 Timothy 6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.

            Slide 18

  1. “But they that will be rich”
    1. Strike at money!
      1. those that love money: 1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

                                    Slide 19

  1. Like Lot of old:

                                                Slide 20

  1. Genesis 13:10-13 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other. Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom. But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.

                                                Slide 21

  • “Lifted up his eyes”

            Slide 22

  • fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition”
    • Temptation: to lie, cheat, soften the message, outright change the message, etc.

                        Slide 23

  • Thorns:
    • Matthew 13:22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

                                    Slide 24

  1. Proverbs 1:17-19 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives. So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

                        Slide 25

  • Lusts: after property that is not theirs, or prosperity, etc.
    • Ephesians 4:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

                                    Slide 26

  1. Here’s the deceitfulness: 1 John 2:15-17 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

                        Slide 27

  • Destruction
    • Example, Balaam: Numbers 31:8 And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.

                        Slide 28

  • Perdition: entire loss
    • Job 27:8 For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his soul?

Slide 29

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

            Slide 30

  1. “For the love of money is the root of all evil”
    1. A hated verse by the world and the religious world.
      1. Newer bibles: “for the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.”; ESV: “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil

                        Slide 31

  • When we fall in love with money, we will do anything to gain it.
    • The root feeds the appetite of the plant
    • It is our motive for all we do or don’t do

                        Slide 32

  • Proverbs 1:19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

                        Slide 33

  • Titus 1:11 Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.

            Slide 34

  • which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith”
    • Like Demas:2 Timothy 4:10 For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.

            Slide 35

  • pierced themselves through with many sorrows”
    • Pierced themselves: like a man that stabs himself.
      • Ulcers, worry, loss of sleep, loss of contentment, etc.

                        Slide 36

  • Like the servant of Elijah: 2 Kings 5:27 The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.
  • The context of verses 1-10: Servants/Slaves to their masters.

Slide 37

Conclusion:

  1. Get Godliness with Contentment!
  2. Remember Nothing Came, Nothing Leaves!
  3. Be Content with That Which God Provides!
  4. Be on Guard against the Danger that Lurks!
  5. Love the Lord and You Will Not Love Money!
